A sturdy stem that was well hydrated and kept cool may tolerate a short trip better than a delicate, already stressed flower in a hot vehicle. That variation is why a seller should not promise that every bouquet can stay out of water for the same number of hours.

The relevant question is not only distance. Include time waiting for pickup, stops along the way, parking, a ceremony or dinner, and the final handoff. A short drive can become a long dry window when the full schedule is ignored.

Step 2

Plan the packaging around the trip

Tell the flower maker whether the bouquet will travel across town, spend time at an event or continue on a longer route. The seller can decide whether a water source, supportive wrap, bucket or other transport method fits the design.

Keep the bouquet upright and protected from crushing. Never leave it in a hot parked vehicle, and avoid placing it directly in the path of strong heat or freezing air.

Step 3

Rehydrate according to the seller’s instructions

At the destination, place the flowers in the prepared clean vase or follow the arrangement’s care instructions promptly. Do not assume that adding more product, very hot water or a home remedy will reverse heat or dehydration damage.

For a wedding, photo session or other time-sensitive use, arrange professional conditioning and pickup timing with the florist rather than testing the bouquet’s limit.
